FEAR AND DESIRE (1953)

Synopsis

In an unidentified country, a war is waging between two side who are viciously opposed. A plane carrying four soldiers crashes and they find themselves in the middle of the forest behind enemy lines. The men come across some of the enemy and immediately take them out. They then cross paths with a young female who they tie to a tree in case she gives them away…

“Deleuze defined prototypical Kubrick here as a ‘dysfunctioning brain’. Here, that process is well under way: the lone face of a soldier in the background reminiscent even at this stage of the afflicted characters that would appear in his later films. Of particular note, the Peter Sellers of Lolita and the Peter Sellers of Dr Strangelove..." — Pierre Murat, Télérama
