MEDIA AWARENESS: WARS FILMED BY THE FRENCH MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
FOR TEACHERS ONLY
At a time when pupils are constantly bombarded with images, it is important to help them take a critical step back and equip themselves to deal with the messages conveyed. Their credulity in the face of imagery is something that must be tackled through critical analysis.
Using highly sensitive images, produced by the Ministry of Defence since 1915, this event invite you to explore how to analyse film narrative and provides teaching tips for using the medium of 'image' in class.
The heritage archives, kept by ECPAD (Etablissement de Communication et de Production Audiovisuelle de la Défense), are testament to the State's discourse regarding France's military engagement. From World War I to the Gulf War, how has the Ministry described its wars in the films shown?
