Synopsis

When NATO troops withdrew from Afghanistan the Afghan National Army (ANA) took over control of Helmand Province, an extremely dangerous region where attacks by Taliban fighters are the order of the day. Security, much less peace, would seem to be unattainable; it is even difficult to find a common language in a country where everyone mistrusts each other...

SAEED TAJI FAROUKY

Saeed is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and cinematographer specialising in humanist, conflict-based films for over ten years. In 2011 he was awarded a Senior TED Fellowship for his documentary work, and was named Artist-In-Residence at the British Museum and Tate Britain. "Tell Spring Not to Come This Year" is his third cinematic documentary and premiered at the Berlinale 2015. It won the Amnesty International Human Rights Film award and the Audience Choice Award.

 

MICHAEL McEVOY

Michael served for 9 months in Helmand where he was employed as a Dari and Pashto-speaking Liaison Officer to the Afghan Army. He was presented with the Lee Platt’s Human Intelligence award as well as a Joint Commander's Commendation for his work in Afghanistan improving relations between Afghan and British forces. "Tell Spring Not to Come This Year" is his first film.
